History of the island
Previously, the island was called "Ko Tapu", which means "wedge" or "nail". Its unique shape attracted the attention of the director who shot the 1974 film "The Man with the Golden Gun". The island's appearance in the film made it famous for a short time, and it was soon renamed "James Bond Island," which led to an increase in tourist traffic.
James Bond Island is one of the many limestone islands in Phang Nga Bay, formed more than 150 million years ago. This archipelago was once a coral reef, which eventually turned into unique islands and rocks due to the influence of nature. Here you can see stalactites and grottoes, as well as explore beautiful lagoons by kayaking. Phang Nga Bay is part of Au Phang Nga National Marine Park, and the island itself became a nature reserve in 1981.
